1.0 About ACFODE
Action for Development (ACFODE) is a national women’s rights organization founded on November 19th, 1985, with a Vision of A just society where gender equality is Reality and a Mission to empower women, youth and girls through social and policy change that fosters a culture where they are accorded equal opportunities. For the past four decades, ACFODE has built strong connections with cooperatives, organisations, forged strong relationships with leaders at differentlevels, and transformed the lives of youth, women and girls through policy advocacy, research, gender transformative and rights-based programming, leadership development, economic empowerment and mentorship.
2.0 Project overview
ACFODE with financial support from We Effect has implemented titled “Empowered to Act: Enhancing Gender Inclusive Programming and Service Delivery among Member-based Organisations.” starting 2023 ending 2025. The project aims to enhance the capacity of member based organizations in promoting Gender Equality and Women’s rights for inclusive sustainable development by 2027. Under this project, ACFODE has played strategic and technical role through supporting 3 We Effect core partners namely; Mt. Elgon Agroforestry Communities Cooperative Enterprises Limited (MEACCE) in Mbale, Bushika Integrated Area Cooperative Enterprises Limited in Bududa (BIACE) and Busoga Growers Cooperatives Union Limited (BGCUL) in Jinja. In the project ACFODE contributed to two result areas namely: Stronger Organisations and Gender Equality.y
Project Objectives
Title: Empowered to Act: Enhancing Gender Inclusive Programming and Service Delivery among Member-based Organisations (E2A).
RESULT Area : Stronger Organizations
Outcome 1: ACFODE’s and We Effect core partners’ institutional capacity for strategic programming and transformational leadership strengthened.
Activities implemented
- Developed ACFODE’s new strategic plan 92024 -2030)
- Orientation of the ACFODE Board members
- Trained staff, members and board members on the existing legal framework and conflict
- .Orientated new members ACFODE in there regions of Uganda ( South West, Mid West and central regions
- Participated in We Effect/ project related fora/ meetings
1.6 Held Inception meetings with We Effect partners
1.7 Reviewed and developed Gender responsive policies and action plans
1.8 Conducted Gender Audit (GA) of the products and services delivered by We Effect partners to their members
1. 8 Provided backstop support to We Effect partners mainly to follow up the gender responsive policies and action plans nade during the implem entation.
2.0 Produced different IEC materials on Gender equality and the project.
1.9 Conducted advocacy training for We Effect partners
2.0 Organised and participated in district and national level events to commemorate 16 days of activism, International Women’s Day, World food day and Environment day
RESULT Area : Gender Equality
Outcome 2: Positive change in Knowledge, Attitudes and Perceptions among We Effect partners and their members towards gender equality.
2.1 Conducted rainings for partners on gender, its concepts and the legal framework.
2.2 Conducted gender analysis of value chains for the twocooperatives: Bushika Integrated Area Cooperative Enterprises Limited in Bududa (BIACE) and Busoga Growers Cooperatives Union Limited (BGCUL) in Jinja.
2.3 Organised land awareness campaigns with cooperatives Busoga Growers Cooperatives Union Limited (BGCUL) and other land actors in the region
2.4 Conducted confidence building trainings for selected women wir=thin teh cooperatives.
2.4 Trained 60 couples on the model couple approach for promoting gender equality.
3.0 Purpose of the Assignment
The purpose of the assignment is to capture voices of representatives of the diiferent categories of partner and primary coopearatives ncluding board and staff members, members of the primary cooperatives, youth, women, model couples and other stakeholders.
The specific objectives of this documentation are to:
- Capture stories of change by the Board and staff members
- Capture stories of change among models couples, youth and women representatives
- Document stories of change of primary cooperarive members at coopeartive level, the work they have done/ doing in their communitities
- Get the perspectives of ACFODE work in the community
- Capture voices of Local Government officials on the work of ACFODE in Bududa and Jinja districts.
A total of 25 stories will be documented from the following categories:
3.1 Categories of project beneficiaries include;
- 6 model couples( 3 from BGCUU-Jinja, 3 from Bushika
- 4 Board representatives and staff ( 2 BCGU and 2 from Bushika )
- 6 members of the primary cooperatives from the two districts
- 2 youth from the primary cooperatives who participated in several ACFODE engagements who participated in teh different project engagements
- 4 women respresentatives who participated in the different project engagements
- 3 District representatives from the Local Gorvernment
- ACFODE project staff and member representative
3.2 Key deliverables
The key deliverable for this task are:
- A script showing questions that will be asked the different categories. (You could refer to the categories as mentioned above broadly)
- A compilation of 25 stories of change capturing representatives of the targeted groups of the project.
- High resolution photos.
4.0 Time frame and Duration
The assignment is expected to be completed within 20 working days from the date of signing the contract.
- Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
- A degree in mass communication, education, social sciences, gender studies, development studies, human rights, and other related fields.
- A detailed CV of the Consultant (s) including their qualifications and an outline of recent experience on assignments of a similar nature.
- Demonstrated familiarity with the concepts, methods, approaches, related Gender as well as samples of similar or related work.
